Exploring Oil and Cold Wax Painting

Step into the world of rich color, velvety textures, and expressive layers in this four-week oil and cold wax painting class. Whether you’re brand-new to the medium or looking to expand your artistic voice, this series will guide you through the fundamentals of working with oil paint and cold wax medium—while giving you plenty of space to explore your own creative direction.

Over four sessions, you’ll learn how to:

✨ Build luminous layers using oil and cold wax

✨ Create depth with scraping, incising, veiling, brayering, and glazing

✨ Work with composition, color harmony, and intuitive mark-making

✨ Add texture with tools like pottery ribs, squeegees, brushes, and found objects

✨ Develop a personal visual language through experimentation and play

Each week, we’ll focus on a different technique, gradually building toward a series of small finished works. You’ll discover how to let go of perfection, respond to what’s happening on the panel, and embrace the beautiful unpredictability of the medium. Expect a mix of demonstration, guided time, and individual feedback so you can grow at your own pace.

By the end of the four weeks, you’ll walk away with a set of richly layered paintings, a deeper understanding of the cold wax process, and a toolkit of techniques you can use for years to come.
