Let's have fun with color! Using the exciting medium of watercolor, you'll learn about taking a sketch and turning into a colorful, finished piece. 

Our painting subject with be zinnia flowers. Our focus will be to enjoy learning watercolor techniques, composition, values, and color.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate or above

Class includes

  • Demonstration by instructor
  • Hands-on, step-by-step creation of your painting
  • Individual feedback by instructor
  • Discussion of creative painting techniques and process with emphasis on enjoying the flow of water and paint on paper.
  • Having FUN with the magic of watercolors!
  • Note we'll be taking a 30-minute break for lunch

Supplies to Bring

Watercolor Paints 
(Any brand. Instructor uses professional grade Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith.)

Suggested Colors
  • Winsor Orange
  • Opera (or other pink)
  • Red (Permanent Rose, Quinacridone Red, or Cadmium Red)
  • Yellow (Lemon Yellow, New Gamboge, or Cadmium Yellow)
  • French Ultramarine Blue
Optional
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Cerulean Blue
  • Green (Hookers and/or Sap Green)
  • Violet (Winsor Violet)
Watercolor Palette

Watercolor Paper (Instructor likes Arches brand paper)
  • Several sheets 
  • 9" x 12" or 11" x 14"
  • Cold Press, 140 lbs

Watercolor Brushes

  • Large brush (#18 or 1-inch)
  • Round #12 or larger
  • Flat (1" or 1/2") or Small round

Backing Board (to tape your paper to)
Masonite or foam core

  • Masking tape (not blue painter's tape)
  • Water cups
  • Pencil and kneaded eraser
  • Paper towels/tissues
  • Sketch book
