Park Hill Summer Paint-out (Plein Air) Schedule 2013

WHEN: Every Thursday during the summer.
WHERE: Different location each week.
TIME: Meet at 9:00 AM
WHO: Open to all painters, friends are welcome. Feel free to make copies of the schedule to give to others.
WHAT TO Bring: Art supplies, water, sun block, folding stool or chair, umbrella, and lunch.

  • May 30th — Denver Botanic Gardens
    10th Ave. and York. Parking lot across the street with access from both York and Josephine. NOTE: Admission fee. Meet inside front gate. Beautiful flower gardens. Restrooms/water/food.
  • June 6th — Lair’O The Bear Park
    Mountain Park along Bear Creek. Pretty river, trees, mountain side, picnic tables near the creek, Take I-70 to C470 Morrison Road exit. Go West through Morrison and up Bear Creek Canyon on Highway 74. Park is a short distance on the left past Idledale and is well marked. Restrooms/water.
  • June 13th — Red Rocks Park
    Spectacular red rock formations, view of Denver. Meet at visitors center (Trading Post.) Take I-70 to the Morrison exit. Go left (South) on Highway 26 to park entrance, than follow the signs. Restrooms, water, restaurant available at Trading Post.
  • June 20th — Robert E. Clement Park.
    7306 W. Bowles Av., behind Columbine library. Between Pierce and Wadsworth. turn south on W. Long Drive. Great view of the Front Range and lake. Shelters and rest rooms.
  • June 27th — Noell Custer’s House*
    (West of Lookout Mountain) 26406 Columbine Glen Trail. Views of Mt. Evans and the Continental Divide, old barns and sheds, maybe wildflowers and garden flowers, 40 acres of mountain land next to buffalo enclosure. Take I-70 West to Exit 254 (sign is marked Genesee Park) at top of Mt. Vernon Canyon. Turn right (north) on Mt. Vernon Country Club Road. Go past Rockland Church to Columbine Glen (just before Mt Vernon Club Gateway). Turn left (west). Go STRAIGHT west approx. 6/10-mile…road ends in their driveway. Restroom/water
  • July 4th —Holiday
  • July 11th —South Mesa Trail Head.
    By Eldorado State Park. Take 6th Avenue west to Morison it will turn into Hwy 93. Continue on 93 North for about 18 miles until you turn left (west) on 1-70 (Eldorado Springs Dr.)  Continue for about 1.7 miles to South Mesa Trail head. It will be on the right. Good view, stream, small old stone farm building. Parking/Restrooms.
  • July 18th — Georgetown.
    Take I-70 west past Idaho Springs to the Georgetown exit # 228. Turn left and go under the highway. There will be a visitors center on the immediate right. This would be a good place to meet. There are many old houses, several parks and public restrooms. A walking tour can be picked up at visitors center listing all attractions. Guanella Pass has great scenery.
  • July 25th — Denver Botanic Gardens.
    10th Ave. and York. Parking lot across the street with access from both York and Josephine. NOTE: Admission fee. Meet inside front gate. Beautiful flower gardens. Restrooms/water/food.
  • August 1st — Daniels Park
    Near Castle Rock. Take I-25 to Castle Pines Parkway. (It’s a few miles before Castle rock outlet stores) Head west or right about 2.4 miles to intersection with N. Daniels park road. Turn right onto Daniels Park Road into park, about .5 miles to area with shelter. Caution: watch out for the traffic circle, it’s easy to get off Castle Pines Pkway. Alternate route from west: take Sante Fe road (85) slightly past Chatfield Dam to Daniels Park Road (29) Take directly into Daniels park. Fantastic view, rock formations, restrooms, shelter but may need umbrella for other great views. Bring water.
  • August 8th — Washington Park.
    Lakes and boat house with several flower gardens. Good for people watching at a formal croquet court and a children’s play ground. Meet at the boat house at Exposition and 700 S. Franklin. Rest rooms and water.

  • August 15thPine Valley Ranch Park
    Part of Jefferson Co. open space. Scenic area on the N. Fork of the S. Platte River. Small lake with mountain view. Cliffs rise above river. Take U.S. Highway 285 to pine Junction.  (about 29 miles on Hwy 285, from Federal to Pine Junction.) Turn left our southeast onto Pine Valley Road (County Road 126) Continue 5.8 miles to the town of Pine, and follow the signs to the park. Water and restrooms and tables.

  • August 22nd — Lookout Mountain Park.
    Pretty park on top of Lookout Mountain. Take I-70 west to the Foothills Exit # 256. Exit and follow signs on Highway 40 to Lookout Mountain Road, (68 or Lariat Loop Road.) The park is next to the road to the Cody Museum and grave. Trees, tables, shelter, great view, restrooms, no water. You can take the back way : Highway 6 past I-70 to Golden. Turn left at 19th Street. There will be a sign saying Lookout Mountain. Follow the road 5.1 miles to Lookout Mountain Park.

  • August 29th — Denver Botanic Gardens.

  • September 5th — Cherry Creek Reservoir
    Entrance off Parker Road past Hampden exit. Take I-70 to I- 225 to the Parker Road South exit. We will meet at the Marina or by the woods. There is a nice stream on the east side, and a short walk from a parking area. Those interested contact Lynn Kirch (above) on where to meet. State park pass fee.  Rest rooms/water in different areas.
