Information and History

The Park Hill Art Club (PHAC) was founded in 1974. Since that time the Club has provided educational opportunities, fellowship and support to members of the community who are interested in art. PHAC differs from many other art organizations in that it offers weekly classes in three different sessions throughout the year. Other Club opportunities include monthly lunchtime meetings followed by artist demonstrations, weekly summertime plein air gatherings, and two annual shows.

The Club has been fortunate to have the continued use of ample facilities at the Park Hill United Methodist Church. With the exception of the summer paint-out sessions, all activities are held at the Church: classes and workshops are conducted in classrooms; art book and instructional video libraries are available nearby, and shows are presented in the large gymnasium. (See location)

Membership in PHAC averages around 250 each year. While the majority live in the Park Hill/East Denver area, the club has active members who live as far away as Evergreen and Longmont. The atmosphere in the church and spirit of the club are very special; members feel it is a good learning place for artists ranging from beginners to professionals.

Classes are offered on Mondays and Thursdays in the fall, winter and spring, in various different media. Instructors are local, professional artists, many of whom have gained national recognition for their work. Class fees are among the lowest in the area. (See classes)

Throughout the year the Club organizes and sponsors various workshops with both local and national instructors, varying in length from one day to one week. Fees vary according to the workshop. (See workshops)

Monthly lunch-time meetings are held throughout the school year, incorporating a short business meeting followed by an art-related program. Art discussions and demonstrations often feature a well-known, local artist. (See schedule)

PHAC sponsors two shows annually, in May and November. These shows exhibit the work of PHAC members exclusively, who are encouraged to display both framed and bin pieces. Considerable multi-form publicity results in a large and enthusiastic audience. (See shows)

Park Hill Art Club welcomes new members. Current dues are $30 per year. For further information regarding the club, please contact the Membership Chairman, Marcia Williams, .
